The level of harmful external pressure exerted on the Republic of Moldova during the elections was historic, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu stated on Wednesday in Chisinau, inform agerpres.ro.
She was in the capital city of the neighboring country, together with her British counterpart, David Lammy.
„This trilateral meeting once again shows the determination of Romania and the United Kingdom of Great Britain to work together and continue to firmly and resolutely support the Republic of Moldova”, stated Odobescu, according to a press release.
She welcomed the „historic” results of the recent election in the Republic of Moldova – the re-election of Maia Sandu as president and the positive result of the constitutional referendum on European integration.
„Unfortunately, the level of harmful external pressures exerted on the Republic of Moldova before and during this electoral exercise was also historic. The scale and diversity of the attacks, the virulence of the hostile, illegal actions aimed at affecting the electoral climate in the Republic of Moldova and diverting the voting options of to the voters was, indeed, without precedent”, said the head of Romanian diplomacy.
From the point of view of the Romanian minister, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova „showed maturity and ability to discern between stage elections and those with decisive value for the future”.
„The place of the Republic of Moldova is in Europe, because the citizens of the Republic of Moldova deserve a safer, more dignified, better future, a prosperous and European future”, stated Odobescu.
David Lammy announced, for his part, a support of 5 million pounds from the United Kingdom, for the more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.
