Minister of Internal Affairs Catalin Predoiu, held a videoconference with his Hungarian counterpart, Sandor Pinter, on Wednesday, on the subject of our country’s accession to the Schengen Area with land borders, with the Romanian official saying that „good” premises have been created for the meeting to be held in Budapest on November 22, which will be attended by the European Commissioner in the field, inform agerpres.ro.
„Today I had a very good discussion via videoconference with the Hungarian Interior Minister, Mr. Sandor Pinter, with whom I discussed the Schengen dossier once again. The conversation took place in view of the upcoming meeting in Budapest, which I will attend together with my fellow Interior Ministers from Hungary, Austria and Bulgaria,” Predoiu said, according to a press release issued by the Internal Affairs Ministry.
He mentioned that „good” premises have been created for the meeting in Budapest on November 22, which will be attended by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson.
„With today’s discussion we have concluded a set of three successive meetings with Austrian Minister Gerhard Karner, Bulgarian Minister Atanas Ilkov and Hungarian Minister Sandor Pinter, in which we aimed to harmonize positions so that the Budapest meeting would result in a new step forward for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area with land borders. All these three talks went very well and we achieved our objective, which was to create good premises for the Budapest talks. I will continue to work together with my colleagues with maximum intensity for Romania’s accession to Schengen, as I have done since I took office, so that the Budapest meeting will be a success and represent a step forward in the perspective of the JHA Council on December 12 in Brussels,” Catalin Predoiu said.
