Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu spoke on Tuesday on the phone with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, whom he told that he wants the U.S. to become Romania’s main non-EU investor and trading partner, inform agerpres.ro.
„I had a very good phone conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. I congratulated him on his historic victory and told him that I am fully committed to the development of our Strategic Partnership. President-elect Donald Trump wanted me to convey his best wishes to the Romanian people! That’s why I told him that I am adamant on the United States becoming Romania’s main investor and trade partner outside the EU,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He added that he told President Trump that Romania has taken „significant steps to respond to his call for a 2.5% increase in the military budget.”
„This proves our commitment not only to Romania’s defense and security, but also to our transatlantic ties. I am convinced that, under the Trump Administration, the Strategic Partnership with the U.S. will move to a new level so that we bring the tremendous American capital into the Romanian economy, but also for the modernization of the army and the development of the national armament industry,” Ciolacu mentioned.
