Romania will enter the Schengen Area with its land borders on January 1, 2025, leader of the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania), Kelemen Hunor, stated on Friday, while adding that he is happy to be part of such the decision, inform agerpres.ro.

„The decision has been taken today in Budapest and Romania will enter the Schengen Area with its land borders on January 1, which is an extraordinary thing. We have worked for this result for years. After 13 years, justice is being done and we can travel without being controlled at the border. The economy will grow, it is an extraordinary thing, and I am happy to be part of the decision,” said Kelemen Hunor, in a video message posted on Facebook.

The UDMR leader is part of the delegation accompanying PM Marcel Ciolacu on Friday, on his visit to Budapest, in the context in which Hungary holds, until December 31, the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, playing a decisive role in supporting the European agenda of expanding the Schengen Area.
