The Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Bogdan Ivan, said on Thursday that there is no question of terminating post offices or people being fired, noting that the Romanian Post is a „strategic institution” and it must be seen how this company can develop and not how its activity can be restricted, announce agerpres.ro.
„At the moment, as long as I represent the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, which is the majority shareholder in the Romanian National Post Company, there is no question to close these offices. I also want to say that in the repeated requests since I have held this portfolio, in none of the meetings of the General Assembly of shareholders did we approve the closure of such offices”, said Ivan, when asked about the fact that the director of the Romanian Post considers it necessary to terminate some offices that are at the limit of survival.
Ivan mentioned that his vision is clear and there is no question of the situation of firing people or closing the offices of the Romanian Post.
Asked how many post offices are still useful, Ivan said that the strategic role of the Romanian Post must not be forgotten.
„Beyond the services it provides for private beneficiaries and for public beneficiaries, the Romanian Post has the role of universal service, which means that for certain services it provides, regardless of whether some are more or less profitable, it is obliged by law to provide certain services of strategic importance. And from this point of view, the closure without a very clear analysis of some post offices is not part of the vision he has today the majority shareholder of the Romanian Post”, the minister pointed out.
He added that he expects the diversification of the activity of the Romanian Post, higher revenues and „the optimization of certain expenses only in the equation where there are explicit situations in which certain post offices do not operate according to some very clear rules and have no beneficiaries”.
„There I agree: if you have a town with 30 people and there you have a post office and it can be served by another office, it’s a different situation. But as long as I am part of the Romanian Government, this will not happen. We will not close offices, we will not let people go,” the minister assured.
